PRE and POST-MEETING EVENTS

For those who arrive early, there will be a pre-meeting dinner on Wednesday, February 22, but the details have not yet been finalized.  On the evening of Sunday, February 26, 2011, and with the assistance of Kim Cannon '70, we are planning a reception at John and Pam Mortenson's art gallery in Wilson, which is about ten miles south of Teton Village on the route to Jackson, with dinner at a local restaurant to follow.

RESORT

The resort which will be hosting our meeting is the SNAKE RIVER LODGE & SPA (http://snakeriverlodge.rockresorts.com/). The SNAKE RIVER LODGE is holding a block of 30 rooms for the meeting until Wednesday, December 14, 2011. After that date, lodging will be only on a space available basis, although the negotiated room rates will remain in effect for any available rooms. The SNAKE RIVER LODGE has a total of 93 guest rooms, plus 61 condos, so make your reservation as early as possible. To make your room reservations, call (866) 975-7625 and identify yourself as part of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association group. If you have any requests for special room arrangements, you need to make them at the time of your call. If any problems with receiving the negotiated room rates, please call or e-mail me so I can handle the issue. The negotiated nightly rates for the SNAKE RIVER LODGE, which will be honored for 3 nights prior and following our meeting dates, are as follows:

For Reservations Made Prior to December 25, 2011

  • Deluxe Rooms - $249.00

  • Premium Fireplace Room - $349.00

  • 2 Bedroom Condo - $749.00

  • 3 Bedroom Condo - $859.00

For Reservations Made On or After December 25, 2011

  • Deluxe Rooms -$269.00

  • Premium Fireplace Room - $399.00

  • 2 Bedroom Condo - $799.00

  • 3 Bedroom Condo - $949.00

When reservations are made, the Lodge will require a deposit equal to 40% of the reservation total, with the balance to be charged 21 days prior to arrival. The deposit is refundable, less a $30 processing fee, if the Lodge receives notice of cancellation at least 21 days prior to the scheduled arrival. Any cancellation within 21 days of arrival will result in full forfeiture of deposit. The above quoted rates do not include taxes, which are currently 8.00%, and a daily resort fee of $15.00 per room, per night (which includes, without limitation, parking, internet access, business center computer access with printing and faxing capabilities, local phone calls, daily newspapers, in-room bottled water on check-in day, lobby and in-room coffee, etc.).

Less expensive lodging options are also available in and around the Town of Jackson which is about 12.5 miles/20 minutes from the ski resort. There is a shuttle that regularly runs between Jackson and the Jackson Hole Ski Resort.

SKIING INFO

Jackson Hole has 116 trails spread over 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain which are serviced by 12 total lifts, so skiers of all abilities will be able to find terrain which will satisfy and/or challenge them. The base area is at an elevation of 6,311 feet and the summit tops out at 10,450 feet. For cross-country skiers and those interested in snowshoeing, the Jackson Hole Nordic and Saddlehorn Activity Center offer 17 KM of professionally groomed track. There are also various cross-country and snowshoe tours of Grand Teton National Park available.

REGISTRATION FEES AND FORM

The registration fees will be $575.00 for DLA members and participants (Classes of 2001 and earlier), $525.00 for DLA members and participants (Classes of 2002 and later), $425.00 for spouses/guests/children 21 and older, and $315.00 for children between 13 and 20. For each child 12 years and younger attending the Friday night dinner at Couloir, the charge for that dinner will be $110.00 and for functions on the other two nights, the charge will be $85.00 for children between 4 and 12 and free for children under 4. If your spouse, children and/or guests will not be attending all dinners, then let me know and an adjustment in the fees can be made. Payment can be made by credit card or by check. If paying by check, you are entitled to a cash discount of 3.00% of the total amount of your registration fee, so please calculate that discount when you make your payment. The registration fee should be submitted on or before January 15, 2012. Registration forms submitted after January 15, 2012 may result in your party ‘s inability to attend the dinner at Couloir if space is no longer available at the restaurant. In the event of a cancellation, requests for refunds, in whole or in part, will be determined on a case by case basis, after taking into account all financial commitments already incurred by the DLA with regard to the meeting. For example, a last minute cancellation will likely result in either no refund or a very small refund because the DLA will have committed to pay for the meals and a number of other expenses in reliance upon the registration fee, while a cancellation made a month or more ahead of the meeting will likely result in a full or almost full refund.

At the bottom of this notice is a link to pull up a reply/registration form for the meeting which you can print out, complete and send in via mail, e-mail, or fax to register for the meeting.

MIDWINTER MEETING SITE FOR 2013 AND SELECTION OF SITE FOR 2014

Despite a strong showing of support voiced by those attending the 2011 Beaver Creek Midwinter Meeting for Switzerland or France to be the site for the 2013 Midwinter Meeting, the DLA Board has decided that it will not be economically feasible for the DLA to go to Europe in 2013. The DLA Board is considering several locations, including Mt. Bachelor in Oregon, Heavenly or Northstar-at-Tahoe in California, and Vail in Colorado as the venue for our 2013 meeting. If you want to nominate a resort for 2014, then please contact Richard Merrill or any of the other officers of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association to obtain a copy of the applicable rules.

FINAL NOTES

If you have attended one or more of our midwinter meetings in the past, we look forward to seeing you again. If you have never attended, then 2012 will be a good year to start. The CLE program is something almost all of us can utilize to satisfy our respective bar association’s CLE ethics requirements and, based upon past presentations, should be quite interesting. The skiing conditions will hopefully be fantastic, and the camaraderie and fellowship is second to none. We also encourage you to bring spouses, children, grandchildren, relatives, significant others, friends, business acquaintances, and any other people you know who might enjoy some quality time in Jackson Hole.

Richard Merrill '73, Program Chair
